When Anna and his team challenged the parliamentarians, there was a sudden uproar in the political galleries. Everyone started talking highly of Democracy and the occupants of the Parliament House as the wisely chosen representatives. Little did we know that serious events like the Rail Budget can have ingredients of Humour. The Rail Minister made announcements that were more or less in sync with what was required. Little did the AAM AADMI object to the nominal fare hike.
It was the other MORE INTERESTED parties which had serious objections to it. Welcome to the political stage where the ones who are affected are shadowed by ones who pretend to be affected. The ones who are want to object are never heard, and the ones who have free passes are the first and only ones to object. Why did Mamata and her party workers not move a motion to stop Railway passes to the MPs, MLAs? Why don’t we stop the families of Railway staff from travelling free of cost, legally and illegally?
Railways already pays the deserved and agreed salary to them, doesn’t it?
Indian Railways is as massive as the Indian government itself. The Union Rail Minister was quite right when quoted that Rail ki Chuk Chuk se Aam Aadmi ki dhak dhak chalti hai. Indeed the common man is affected by railways. millions of commuters use the Rail services daily. It has taken us 65 years to figure out that the railway platforms, stations and trains are unhygienic? If an organisation like Sulabh International develop self-sustaining models of Toilets, can we not have Indian Railways with a support of a full ministry and a strong lobby of Administrative bureaucrats to think out a solution. It is quite amusing that Indian Railways still is in a state that it is.
When Lalu Prasad Yadav opened avenues of revenue generation, the opposition and allies objected to it. But tell me is it not a criminal wastage to not utilize the massive Railway Infrastructure by roping in corporate participation, advertising on sites, etc?
I wonder how can these issues be ignored and not a part of the Rail Budget? Can we not have a policy which has a combined participation of Public – Private partnerships?
Why can we not draw a leaf out of Delhi Metro’s book? Why do we have to calculate and project vague figures? The operating costs projects are amazing but sadly unprecedented. We do not drive country’s growth on assumptions that need record breaking efforts and specially in these turbulent times.
And to add to the misery is the political drama eversince the railways minister concluded his speech. He has maintained solidarity, he has been scolded, reprimanded, called back, asked to resign, resigned, accepted, and then not resigned, still maintains the designation. The entire population is glued to the television sets more to have some masala khabar than a genuine news. The media is doing gymnastics on a tamarind leaf. Anyone comes up with a statement of his choice, the same person is giving three contradicting speeches.
I believe that Railways is a serious business of the government and the same shall be dealt with utmost care and sincerity. And I hope that the Railway Minister keeps to his words, Faulad sa seena hai, fauladi hai baahein – hum chattano mein bhi bana lenge rahein. Jai Hind
